Download file to raspberry pi

You'll need to run this as root. Install the Application from my github repository. If you already have node , and npm installed, you will want to make sure that you don't use the node install script you can just omit the: sudo. You can easily reinstall your dependencies to your other node projects if you navigate to your node project folder s and run npm install, this is not an issue if you are not currently running other node type projects on your raspberry pi. There a few different ways you could launch the node application.

Here is the first option: i prefer the second option , but screen is great, and i would suggest trying screen out if you haven't used it before:. The script is now running on a "screen" session. This allows you to go in and also back out of the running process. If you attach to the session, you will see the logs of the session. There is documentation online to run screen applications on startup.

For now, if you restart your pi, then you will have to relaunch the node application with:. You can now navigate around, find the file you want to work on, and double click it. It should now appear in your local text editor! When we double click it, we can edit it. Be sure to save! Always be sure to save.

Once you save, you should see blue colored dialog in the bottom screen, indicating the file was succesfully updated on the Pi. Unsaved files will appear red in the tab bar at the top! At this point you will need to access the Raspberry Pi through a terminal and login with the username pi and password raspberry.

You can use the terminal provided in the GUI or follow the Hyperterminal Connection section in the instructions here to gain access to the Raspberry Pi.

Navigate to the USB storage device folder. Copy the files into whatever folder you desire. Here is a basic guide to using SCP for file transfers. If you want to use your Raspberry Pi as backup storage for your Windows PC or visa versa , using rsync over SSH is a great way to automate the process. One way around this is to install the Google Chrome Remote Desktop app to your PC, and then use the Remote Desktop client in the Chrome browser on any other internet connected device.

One note — Linux does not like file names to have spaces between them. So, what if you have a file that has a space in the name? You can either rename the file on your Mac to have no spaces between words, or you can comment out the space. Start by downloading FileZilla onto your Windows PC other file transfer clients work too, but I am using FileZilla as it is a free download and easy to use. Open up FileZilla.
